Clare Staunton - Sex & Relational Therapist
About the Therapist
I’m guessing that you are hoping that I know what I am doing in this field as a specialist? Well, this is the subject area I have been working in for a number of years, even before I chose to start my practice. From an early age I was curious about people, relationships and sex. In reality, what I find happens in the therapy room is an exploration and encouragement for you to find pleasure and consent in relationship with yourself and others. What I am not the specialist in, is you. So between us I hope we might be able to be ‘in relationship’ to get you where you want to be. Aside from being an accredited member of COSRT, I also work within a few groups of specialists. The London Gender Sexual and Relationship Practice is a GSRD friendly group practice of which I am a member. I am open to working with sex workers without pathologising you. Sex addiction and the 12 step model linked to it, is not something I collude with. I am developing more connections with other embodied practitioners – with an interest in body psychotherapy, somatic experiencing, Hakomi therapy, those working with vagus nerve activation at the heart to their work. Please get in touch to network if you are a practitioner who does this, specifically in the field of sex.

There are a lot of sex counsellors out there and picking the right one for you is an important part of the process. If you want someone honest, transparent and open-minded yet professional and a specialist in the field, then I might be the counsellor for you. I’m pretty down to earth, use humour where appropriate, but can also be in a deep dark place – depending on where you need to go. If you would prefer a counsellor who will consistently sit quietly for hours while you recline on a chaise longue and stare at the ceiling, then we might not be the best match. On the flip side, clients may want me to ‘fix’ their ‘problem’ by ‘doing to’ them. It’s likely to be work somewhere in the middle there – some analysis and reflection combined with equipping you with tools to be able to be where you want to be. It’s difficult to get my personality across in a website, so I offer a free 10 minute phone call to help your decision making process.

An initial 1:1 ‘Discovery’ session costs £200 (and 1:2 £260) lasts up to 90 minutes and includes a summary email with tailored suggestions and links and resources that may be useful. Ongoing counselling fees are 75 minutes – £150 (1:1) and £180 (couples) 90 minutes – £180 (1:1) and £215 (couples)
Lower cost slots are sometimes available and longer or more intense sessions can be costed for you too. The latter can particularly work well, if you are looking for shorter term, coaching based work or a one-off 'unconscious fit' exploration. I really enjoy doing this work- that I find is more direct, where clients are ready to undertake work between sessions or perhaps are undertaking other work at the same time.
I currently do not accept private healthcare referrals through agencies such as BUPA - but I can provide you receipts if you are claiming this back from your organisation.
