Max Townley
About the Therapist
I am a white, queer, trans-masc non-binary counsellor and psychotherapist working online and in-person in the Stockport area of Greater Manchester. My work is shaped by my own lived experience and identity as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community as well as continued and on-going training and development.
I am passionate about advocating for all gender, sexuality and relationship diversities and invite clients to bring all parts of themselves into the therapy room to be recognised and affirmed. I am a kink/BDSM and sex positive therapist as well as having experience working with trans and gender non-conforming clients. My work is trauma informed and neurodiverse informed.
I believe that clients are the authority in their lives and my work offers a non-judgemental, safe place to explore identity, behaviours, traumatic events past and present, as well as a wealth of other areas which may be cause for discomfort and distress.

I am an integrative psychotherapist, meaning that I draw on many areas of knowledge and training and my core therapeutic approach is person-centred, which centres the client as the authority in their own life. I draw on other areas of psychotherapy such as humanistic, Transactional Analysis, GSDR, attachment and trauma-informed depending on what the client brings to their sessions. I tailor my approach to ensure that it is as individual as each client I see in order to accompany them on their own therapeutic journey.
I have experience working in a domestic violence clinic, primary schools, high schools and 6th form as well as non-profits across Greater Manchester. I work with all aspects of gender diversity, relationship diversity and sexuality as well as a range of mental health concerns such as depression, self-harm, eating disorders, anxiety, domestic and childhood abuse and trauma. My practice is also neurodiverse informed.
