Izzy Savege
About the Therapist
I am passionate about working with the LGBTQIA+ community in a variety of ways and have a particular interest in supporting people who struggle to feel like they belong. Much of my work focuses on building resilience, managing anxiety and increasing self-worth.
What is Art Therapy?
You don't need to have any artistic skills or experience to benefit from Art Therapy. Art making in therapy is a tool for communication and exploration. It allows us to give our feelings form, colour, texture and more, and focuses on the process of making rather than the outcome. It is suitable for anyone
1-to-1 sessions can look different from one week to the next, however, usually we’ll get creative, through art making, movement or some other way that feels right, and explore what feels important to you that day. We’ll have some space to reflect on the process together before we finish. Depending on what you need that day, I may guide you through a creative exercise, or we might allow the creative process to unfold itself.
My sessions last 1 hour and take place online, via Zoom, however I also offer email therapy for those who find writing beneficial. For more information about Art Therapy see the BAAT website: https://baat.org/art-therapy/what-is-art-therapy/

My lived experience as a bi-sexual woman in a neurodivergent body shapes my approach and the way that I work. I spend lots of time outdoors, walking or swimming the sea, to recharge between sessions. I always practice my creative exercises before I share them with you, and centre my work around evidence based methods.
I have over 8 years experience working as an Art Therapist, and started providing online sessions 4 years ago, after studying a diploma in Online Counselling. My practice weaves together the threads of my previous Art Therapy work in end-of-life care, Women's Shelters, HIV support and Creative Yoga workshops.
My work at the Terrence Higgins Trust was invaluable as it gave me extensive experience of working with people with a range of different gender and sexual expressions. During this time I completed various trainings in how to provide safe, inclusive therapy for LGBTQIA+ folk.
