About the Therapist
Having a therapist who is also part of the LGBTQ+ community can enable a greater degree of trust and ‘not having to explain oneself,’ that can render the work even more powerful.
Some of the difficulties that I typically help with include:
- Sense of self (e.g. sense of identity and direction in life) and the search for meaning or purpose, often related to work and the question 'what now'?
- Addressing guilt and shame - both past and present
- Relationship difficulties or the meaning of intimacy
- Life change or loss e.g. career change, bereavement or relationship break-up
- Emotional distress (including mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and panic)
- Facing a difficult decision or transition
My clients often report a particular stuckness being removed and an ability to see their lives with a clearer perspective. Therapy can offer a path to a new way of thinking and relating.

My approach covers psychodynamic, existential and humanist models with the client/therapist relationship at its core, with a particular interest around diversity in society. I recognise the GSDR (Gender, Sexual and Relationship Diversity) model as being a useful way of describing my practice.
I also have several years’ experience in working primarily with gay men as well as other members of the LGBT+ community, as well as people in non-monogamous relationships, and people living with HIV and other long-term conditions.
Following my qualification, I gained the experience and expertise to be fully accredited by the UKCP. I have lived experience as a gay man growing up in London and Essex, and as a carer for a family member with bi-polar and dementia.
