Bluebird Counselling and Psychotherapy
About the Therapist
I'm a cisgender bisexual and queer woman and I use she/her pronouns. Although I've worked with many different people, with different needs. I'm especially passionate about working with people with traumatic life experiences and folks within the LGBTQ+ community. Much of my ongoing training post-qualification has focussed in these specific areas.
I have worked with many different people - with different needs - from people struggling with all types of addictions, to people living with feelings of depression and anxiety, to those finding difficulties in their relationships hard to manage, to people coping with bereavement and people dealing with traumatic life eperiences. I believe it is possible to find a way through those experiences with support. I don't ask: 'what's wrong with you?' but rather, 'what happened to you?' I also have experience working with neurodivergent individuals who are finding life difficult. I work with an open-mindset and am poly/kink/bsdm aware. I understand that everyone is different and some have different types of relationship.

My background is in academia: I studied English Literature and Psychology at Nottingham Trent University and I have an MA in Philosophy and Contemporary English Literature from Goldsmiths College, London. I trained to be a counsellor at the Iron Mill College in Exeter, completing both certificate and diploma courses there. As part of this training, I undertook placement work at both Mid Devon Community Family Trust (https://mdcft.org.uk/) and the Dartmoor Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy (https://dartmoorcounselling.org/) where I continued to volunteer for a further six months after my training formally ended. I am fully insured and have a DBS certificate. I am an accredited member of NCPS.

As a Philosophy graduate, it's inevitable that this experience comes with me into the therapy room!
Although I work in an integrative way, I am heavily influenced by Humanistic counselling theories and I work in a person-centred way. I am also influenced by Existential philosophies and approaches, Gestalt and Polyvagal theory. I am learning more about Mindfulness, which is useful for some clients in our work together. If clients wish, I am happy to work creatively: using pens, paper, objects and so on. I also have a sand-tray available in my room for clients to use.

My fees per session are £50 and these are payable prior to the appointment; payment acts as confirmation of attendance. All sessions (in person/online) are 1 hour long and this includes time to diarise further appointments.
I offer all new clients an inital consultation of up to 30 minutes in person/via zoom at a discounted rate of £20. This allows us to briefly talk about why you might be coming for therapy at this time, allows us both to meet each other - and get a feel for if we are a good fit and also allows you to ask me any questions you might have.
