Experience and approach:

I have worked in mental health and substance abuse continuously since 1987. I have worked in every level of care - inpatient, outpatient, residential treatment, administration - in both of those fields. My approach is eclectic, which means that there is not one methodology that works for all clients in all situations, so I like to use a mixture of approaches that work best for the client and the problems they are dealing with. I do use homework, because I believe that one hour a week with a therapist is not enough for people to improve their lives. Not only do they need to be trying new things in the real world, but they need to be practicing new skills to help with their current situations as well as events and experiences that the future might bring. The ultimate goal is for every client to learn to be their own best therapist.
