Sarah Ward
About the Therapist
I would describe my approach as warm, compassionate and inclusive. I’m not a ‘blank slate’ therapist - I won’t sit in silence. I respect that therapy is a significant investment of your time, money and energy, so you can expect that I’ll be invested in you and your journey.
The most important thing to me is that you feel welcomed and seen for exactly who you are. I am LGBTQIA+ friendly and work with gender, sex and relationship diversity. I am neurodiversity affirming and have completed training around cultural competence.
I have significant experience working in mental health services. This means I can work with people with mental health diagnoses, severe and long-term difficulties and people working with mental health teams.
It also means I know that our mainstream mental health system can be unhelpful, invalidating and traumatic, especially for people with marginalised identities. I care about helping people recover from these experiences and feel empowered to find a way of healing that’s right for them.

I trained for 4 years to become a therapist, which included having my own weekly personal therapy throughout.
I have over 15 years’ experience working in the world of mental health and therapy. I spent most of this time as a service manager within residential therapeutic services, NHS Talking Therapy (IAPT) and Primary Care Mental Health. Alongside running these services, I supervised therapists, mental health nurses, psychological wellbeing practitioners, mental health support workers and clinical managers.
Before this, I enjoyed working as a mental health support worker, and as a counsellor at a low-cost counselling service and a specialised sexual abuse counselling service.
I now work with individuals to help them find their most peaceful and fulfilling lives, in the right way for them, for however long they need.
