About the Therapist
Welcome. I am an accredited practitioner, working with individual adults since 2020. People have come to me in the past while experiencing various problems, including anxiety or depression, bereavement, abuse or other relationship difficulties, as well as questions about themselves. Some (but not all) seek therapy because because of a medical diagnosis; others have reached a crisis or found their longstanding ways of coping don't seem to work anymore; still others are looking to explore notions of purpose or identity.
Whatever you're struggling with personally, counselling & psychotherapy may help by providing you with a steady, reliable place to be inquisitive about what's going on. It's a private conversation, away from the assumptions and expectations of daily life. I have a particular interest in helping if you feel your experience has not met with recognition, or where your concerns feel repetitive or long lasting but the reasons for this may be confusing or unclear.Â
I have long attended to how scapegoating has acted on different areas of society, such as disability, settled status, and even single parenthood. While targets often shift, oppression is ever-present. At the moment, there is little room in public life to speak freely from transitional or non-binary positions. I want to offer a place where the expression of nuanced or overlooked ways of being is welcome.
My own passage through gendered life has been quietly questioning. I am not quite at ease with the preconceptions handed out by traditional roles. My guiding principle for doing therapy is making room for things beyond what I presume to know. The kind of speaking together that therapy gives us can become a crucible, in which possibilities may be enlivened and reclaimed.
Counselling and Psychotherapy are best thought of not as "cure" or "fix" but a means toward knowing yourself in new and fuller ways. An offshoot of this -Â for many people - is finding more options in life, having more satisfying relationships, or a capacity to notice, feel and live with more kinds of emotions. If you would like to arrange an initial appointment to talk about what draws you to therapy, please leave me a message.
