Hamilton Sargent - Online and Phone Counselling
About the Therapist
I became a therapist because therapy changed my relationships with myself, others, and my queerness. I wholeheartedly believe it can change yours too.
If you're struggling to find your way through relationship difficulties with anyone in your life, I can help. You could be experiencing issues with a partner, parent, family member, work colleague, friend or yourself.
Relationships can be sources of love, support and acceptance, but for many LGBTQIA+ folks they may also bring rejection, uncertainty, turmoil and pain. This can be exhausting and overwhelming.
Does any of this sound familiar?
- A relationship is proving stressful, breaking down or going through a turbulent time. Perhaps it has been this way for a while, or you notice patterns repeating.
- You're feeling let down or betrayed by someone who you trusted. You're left feeling lonely, rejected and ignored.
- You feel confused or uncertain about your sexuality or gender identity, want support coming out or feel scared about taking steps to live more authentically.
- You're losing yourself in what others want, driven by your need to please them. Your own needs, wants and desires keep being pushed aside.
- You have a dominant 'inner critic', hold yourself to high standards and never feel good enough.
Whatever you’re currently going through, perhaps just knowing I am queer and non-binary will make therapy feel a safer space for you. Any issues you are experiencing and all parts of you are welcome.

How I can help you
Working together, I can support you to:
- Improve your mental health and emotional wellbeing, giving you relief from your distress and anxiety.
- Cultivate a healthier, deeper and more fulfilling relationship with yourself, others and the world around you.
- Understand, heal and recover from challenging relationships and experiences, and feel more at ease.
- Re-connect with your authentic yourself, improve your self-esteem, and learn to accept and honour your own needs and identities.
My practice is LGBTQIA+ affirmative, anti-racist, disability and neurodiverse affirmative. My approach has an extensive evidence base and I hold an awareness of how trauma and shame can affect the mind and body. We will centre your unique experiences and needs at all points.
In our sessions, I will offer you a safe and accepting space to bring all of yourself. There will be no expectations - you will be able to talk, think, process, discover, feel uncertain, cry, get angry, laugh and even be creative! We'll go at your pace and at the depth you choose, exploring your experiences with care, compassion and understanding.
Working creatively is optional and offers you a variety of ways to express and explore yourself. Using creative methods can help you to bring the unconscious into the conscious, and to process challenging and traumatic experiences in a safe and contained way. Approaches might include therapeutic cards and photos, working with objects in the sand, doodling and drawing, creative writing and use of metaphor. Creativity in therapy has an extensive evidence base and is supported by neuroscience.
Alongside helping with relationship issues, I have experience working with many other mental health issues and concerns.
