Laura Rusk
About the Therapist
I provide evidence-based, compassionate CBT tailored to your needs, whether weekly or fortnightly, depending on your schedule. Together, we’ll build a strong therapeutic relationship, working collaboratively to explore and challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, break cycles of distress, and move towards meaningful change.
As a queer-affirming therapist (white, bisexual, cis woman, she/her), I am committed to creating a warm, non-judgemental, and confidential space where you can explore difficult emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. I welcome clients of all genders, sexualities, relationship styles, faiths, cultures, and identities, with the aim of fostering a space free from shame – where you can be fully yourself.
In addition to therapy, I offer clinical supervision for both trainee and qualified CBT therapists. I'm also a lecturer at the University of Hull across the CBT training portfolio, supporting the development of Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners, High Intensity CBT Therapists, and clinicians working in secondary care with clients experiencing serious mental health difficulties.
If you’re seeking a supportive, inclusive, and effective therapeutic space, I’d be honoured to share my small part of the internet with you.

I initially trained as a low intensity psychological wellbeing practitioner in 2016 whilst working in forensic mental health supporting people through court and incarceration where I took a lot of the skills I practice today. I then qualified as a CBT therapist in 2021. As a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, my approach is structured, evidence-based, and collaborative. I work with you to explore the connections between your thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and physical responses. Together, we identify unhelpful patterns and develop practical strategies to break cycles of distress and move towards meaningful change. CBT is goal-oriented and focused on building skills that empower you to manage current challenges and prevent future difficulties. I have experience working with complex trauma, OCD, anxiety disorders, phobias, clinical depression, low self esteem and body dysmorphia to name a few. I also work with transdiagnostic models for clients who have difficulties that standard CBT has not been effective in overcoming.
In addition to CBT, I integrate principles of Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) to support clients who experience high levels of self-criticism, shame, or emotional difficulties rooted in early life experiences. CFT helps develop a kinder, more compassionate relationship with yourself by nurturing your inner sense of safety, care, and self-acceptance. It’s particularly helpful when traditional CBT techniques feel too cognitive or when emotional regulation is a key area of concern.
