Nigel Sutcliffe Wellbeing
About the Therapist
I’m an openly gay man and a fully qualified integrative therapist with over 10 years of experience. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in genuinely meeting you where you are. While I work with people from all backgrounds, I have a particular passion for supporting gay men — especially those who are struggling with patterns of concerning sexual behaviour or feeling caught in cycles of porn use and compulsions. This work is deeply meaningful to me, and I bring both professional expertise and lived understanding to help you explore these experiences without shame or judgement.
Across my career, I’ve worked extensively with issues such as depression, anxiety, anger and behavioural challenges, gender identity and sexuality, adverse childhood experiences, problematic sexual behaviours, porn compulsions, trauma (including EMDR), sexual abuse, and relationship difficulties. Whatever you’re facing, my priority is to offer a space where you can speak openly and feel fully supported.
I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), hold full public liability insurance, and engage in regular supervision. I’m also committed to ongoing professional development so that my practice stays current, ethical, and responsive to your needs.
I offer both face-to-face and online therapy from my practice in Deal, Kent, with options for short-term or long-term work depending on what feels right for you.
If you’d like to explore working together, I’d be very happy to hear from you.
- Other
I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling and have completed additional training in trauma-focused therapies and problematic sexual behaviour. I’m also a qualified EMDR therapist. While these formal qualifications are important, I believe the most valuable insight I bring to my work comes from my own lived experience. As an openly gay man for nearly 30 years, I’ve navigated a wide range of life’s challenges and triumphs. This personal journey has shaped my understanding in ways no textbook ever could, and it deeply informs the empathy, presence, and support I offer in the therapy room.

I’m an integrative therapist and EMDR practitioner with over 10 years of counselling experience, supported by more than 30 years of lived experience as an openly gay man. My practice is rooted in warmth, authenticity, and a deep appreciation for the diverse and complex journeys within the LGBTQI+ community.
Alongside my wider therapeutic work, I have specialised experience in the assessment and treatment of concerning or problematic sexual behaviours, including compulsive porn use and patterns that feel difficult to manage or understand. This includes structured assessment, formulation, and evidence-informed therapeutic interventions — delivered with sensitivity, professionalism, and without judgement.
My background spans a range of settings, including The AIDS Foundation, mental health services, youth support within colleges, and private practice. I have supported both individuals and same-sex couples with issues relating to identity, relationships, intimacy, and emotional wellbeing.
I offer a safe, inclusive, and confidential space where all parts of you are welcome — and where you can explore challenges at a pace that feels right for you.
