Queer Spaces
About the Therapist
We are Queer Spaces, a collective of artists and psychotherapists committed to supporting the queer community through creative therapeutic practice. Our team (Yasmeen Brett, Guy Harries and Katie Merritt) brings together clinical expertise, artistic practice and lived experience to create inclusive and transformative spaces.
We offer 1-to-1 therapy, experiential community-building workshops and CPD training for therapists and mental health practitioners. https://www.queerspaces.co.uk/
We combine psychotherapy and creativity to explore identity, embodiment and relationality. Our work is grounded in anti-oppressive, queer-affirmative practice, placing curiosity, play and lived experience at the centre. We aim to make our spaces sustainable, accessible, and pioneering, offering workshops, therapy and training programmes to empower queer voices and reimagine how healing and storytelling can be experienced.

We believe that therapy is a collaborative, relational journey, a journey that honours your pace, your story and your voice. We do not seek to “fix” but to listen actively, allowing what needs to emerge to do so in its own time. Our integrative approach draws on psychodynamic and person-centred roots, layered with creative, embodied, and narrative practices that invite exploration beyond words.
Our practice is queer-focused and anti-oppressive, creating a space where identities and experiences are not just accepted, but celebrated. Curiosity is at the heart of our work: the curiosity to understand, to witness, and to make meaning together. We believe stories are more important than solutions, and that the telling of them can be a powerful act of self-recognition and liberation.
Here, queer voices and stories are given the space to exist fully — without censorship, without compromise and to be met with empathy, respect and genuine engagement.
Katie Merritt
I am an integrative psychotherapist, drawing on psychodynamic and person-centred approaches within my work. My practice is queer-positive and anti-oppressive, valuing creativity as a pathway to insight and healing. With my experience as a theatre maker, I have an affinity with metaphor, colour, texture, rhythm, and musical patterns to explore narrative and what lives in the body, going on a journey to reframe childhood experiences, and offering relationally and curiosity to explore what is happening to you in the here and now.
My approach invites you to access experiences that may be difficult to put into words, using expressive and embodied methods to illuminate personal meaning and understanding. I provide a safe, affirming, and inclusive space where your identity, story, and emotions are fully seen and heard. Together, we can explore challenges, nurture a sense of self, and create grounded insights that feel transformative.
Yasmeen Brett
With over 25 years of experience in theatre and the arts, I bring a creative and dynamic perspective to my integrative psychotherapy practice. My work centres on GSRD (Gender, Sexuality, and Relationship Diversity), neurodiversity, identity, persistent difficult feelings and significant life transitions. My approach is tailored, relational and responsive, and I am deeply committed to social justice, striving to create inclusive spaces where you can feel truly seen.
I am drawn to the challenges and complexity of what it means to be human; embracing our contradictions, considering our desires and understanding how our past influences who we are today. I recognise the profound impact that culture, community and social structures have on our lives. I provide a genuinely compassionate environment where you can explore these connections, your unique lived experience and discover more about how you relate to yourself, others and the world around you.
Guy Harries
I'm an integrative psychotherapist offering a warm, grounded space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace. Drawing from person-centred, psychodynamic and relational approaches, I work flexibly with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, bereavement, trauma, low self-esteem, creative blocks and major life transitions. My practice is fully inclusive and affirming for LGBTQ+ individuals and those who are neurodivergent. I'm a Registered Member of BACP (MBACP) and hold a PhD in Music, which enriches my attention to the subtleties of expression and how we communicate beyond words.
You don't need to be in crisis to seek support. Whether you want to understand how your past affects your present, navigate current challenges, or reconnect with what feels meaningful, we can explore it together at a pace that feels right for you. My aim is to create an environment where all parts of your experience can be met with curiosity and compassion, free from pressure or judgement.
