Dinah Purton
About the Therapist
Largely motivated by my own identity journey, I completed multiple trainings over many years on GSRD (Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversity), Gender Dysphoria, LGBTQI+ issues, ADHD and Autism. I bring to my practice my personal experience of many of these - in my own life and that of my children and other family members - and I am happy to be open and transparent about myself if this is helpful to you.The majority of my clients are neurodivergent often with a focus on self acceptance and managing the reality of navigating a neurotypical world. This can range from creating custom ADHD strategies for your individual challenges to a deep dive into the origins of your identity, patterns of neurodivergence in your family and where you fit in the world.I frequently work with queer families exploring their options and gaining clarity on what everyone involved wants and needs. There is no limit on the individual nature of this but can include initial conception choices, adoption, donation and surrogacy, co- and multiple-parenting, blending families, Living Apart Together families and expanding polycules.

I draw on a wide range of approaches including systemic, solution-focused, CBT, ACT, compassion-focussed and coaching oriented ideas and techniques. My original training integrated systemic therapy with psychodynamic and person centred practice. For the last 12 years I have been a fertility counsellor working in private and NHS clinics on Harley St and in Tunbridge Wells, and am an accredited member of BICA (British Infertility Counsellors Association). For obvious practical reasons a large proportion of my clients are LGBTQI+ using IUI, IVF, surrogacy, egg/sperm preservation pre-transition, dealing with detransitioning prior to conception and creating families in a wide variety of family structures from polycules to co-parenting to solo parenting.I have worked with a wide variety of private, NHS, fertility and Relate clients, been a secondary school counsellor, provided short term GP-referred counselling, worked with parents in a primary school and with homeless people looking to reconnect with their families. Most recently I set up and ran a pilot project integrating Advocacy and Psychotherapy, supporting parents of neurodivergent children.I work flexibly - most of my sessions are fortnightly though some are weekly, monthly or less frequent including standalone sessions. I try to work around irregular routines where possible.
