Debra Kurs
About the Therapist
I am a cisgender, queer , female therapist with over forty years of experience working in relational roles across education, youth services, and therapeutic settings. Having navigated my own identity since the 1970s, I bring an elder perspective to understanding identity, transition, and belonging across the lifespan. Coming to understand my own neurodivergence later in life was revelatory, deepening my compassion and adaptability in therapeutic work. I recognise how social change, marginalisation, and difference shape wellbeing. My work is grounded in empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness, offering a respectful, affirming space where clients can explore identity, relationships, and emotional experience safely.

My approach is relational, meaning I believe therapy works best when built on trust, safety, and authentic human connection. Over many years of working with people in complex settings, I have learned that each person’s needs are different. A pluralistic approach allows me to adapt therapy thoughtfully, drawing on a range of ideas and methods to support each individual. Therapy is collaborative, and together we explore goals that feel meaningful and achievable. Clients remain at the centre of the process, guiding the pace and direction of the work while being supported with empathy, acceptance, and care.
