Psychotherapy and counselling by Mariia Goubernik
About the Therapist
I offer a therapeutic space that grounds deep clinical understanding in real-world compassion. Holding a Magister's Degree from Kharkiv National Medical University and advanced specialized qualifications from the Institute of Addiction Psychotherapy in Lviv, my background blends medical school foundations with intensive therapeutic training. Additionally, my counseling credentials from Wirral Met College reflect my integration into local therapeutic frameworks, enhancing my ability to offer adaptive, culturally sensitive care.
As a therapist, I do not look at your challenges in isolation. I recognize that personal struggles with mental health, intimacy, or self-esteem are often closely tied to systemic discrimination, structural barriers, or major life displacements. Drawing from my own lived experience as a trans, non-binary individual and a war refugee, I intentionally dedicate my practice to empowering those who are frequently left out of traditional healthcare settings—particularly women, sex workers, and the LGBTQIA+ community.
Whether we work together online or face-to-face, my role is to act as a supportive, collaborative guide. I bring over 5.5 years of experience in managing high-risk casework, crisis intervention, and complex emotional trauma. Together, we will gently unpack your past, address your present hurdles, and build practical tools designed to help you live safely, authentically, and securely in your own skin.

Professional Transparency & Framework
A Note on My Practice and Credentials: As a refugee from Ukraine, the foundational years of my medical and specialized therapeutic education were completed overseas. Because of this structural transition, I am not yet a member of a UK-specific awarding body, though I am actively in the process of transferring and aligning my qualifications to the local regulatory frameworks.
My practice is fully transparent, evidence-based, and adheres strictly to rigorous professional ethical standards and data-protection (GDPR) frameworks to ensure your absolute safety and confidentiality.

My therapeutic practice is built on a foundation of extensive, continuous, and highly specialized clinical experience. Over the past 5.5 years, I have provided deep, transformative support to over 550 individual clients and more than 100 couples. In addition to my individual and relational work, I bring 5 years of experience in group therapy facilitation, where I specialize in creating structurally safe environments to process highly emotive material and trauma.
Because I launched my practice during the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequently navigated the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the vast majority of my experience has been forged online. This includes providing non-stop, vital crisis support for Ukrainian clients, alongside 3+ years of delivering comprehensive therapy in English to a global clientele. Whether working virtually or face-to-face, I am highly adept at building deep, secure, and securely boundaried therapeutic connections.
I practice an integrative, multimodal approach. I believe that counseling should adapt to the person, not the other way around. To support your unique healing journey, I draw from a varied professional toolkit:
-
Trauma-Focused Methods: Utilizing specialized techniques—ranging from EMDR to body-focused (somatic) therapy—to help your nervous system process complex trauma, abuse, and systemic stress safely.
-
Sex Therapy & Sexology: Offering an affirmative, non-judgmental space to explore sexuality, dismantle shame, and navigate intimacy or relationship difficulties.
-
Person-Centered Counselling: Ensuring that you remain the director of your own narrative in an environment rooted in deep empathy and mutual respect.
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Implementing structured, practical tools to help manage daily anxiety, unpack unhelpful thought patterns, and build your self-esteem.
By blending clinical expertise with a passionate commitment to social justice and human rights, I partner with you to conduct ongoing assessments and adjust your care plan, keeping your safety and empowerment at the absolute center of our work.
