Person-centred counselling, developed by Carl Rogers, is a humanistic approach to therapy that emphasises the client as the expert in their own life. The core belief is that individuals have an innate tendency toward growth and self-actualisation, and with the right environment, they can resolve their own issues. This approach is non-directive, meaning the counsellor does not lead or give advice, but instead provides a supportive and empathetic space. Clients are empowered to explore their feelings, increase self-awareness, and move toward greater independence and emotional well-being. Person-centred counselling is widely used in various settings and is known for building strong therapeutic relationships based on trust and respect.
