About the Therapist
I'm a gay cis-gender man from East London, but I'm ethnically Irish and my parents are Irish immigrants. I'm an atheist, but was raised in an Irish-Catholic world and educated by Jesuit monks.
I used to be the chair of the section of gender, sexuality, relationship diversity of the British Psychological Society, and sat on their practice guidelines review group and mental capacity advisory group. I have always been very clear about trans, non-binary and intersex visibility, inclusion and rights and continue to contribute in whatever way I can.
I'm also a voice coach and am finishing a masters in voice pedagogy, have Estill training and have recently started offering free gender affirmative voice coaching to align voice with identity. I sing upper tenor in the London Gay Men's Chorus and I'm the assistant director of a small queer choir in London. I am training to be professional perfumier, and live with a husky who sleeps more than I do.

As a clinical psychologist I'm trained as a scientist-practitioner, and tend to focus on offering evidence-based approaches, being initially led by whatever diagnosis you might have been given, or establishing what diagnosis might fit. However, a diagnosis, is nothing more than an evidenced opinion that points me in a good direction. The actual work I do follows a psychological formulation that I build with the client, and uses various therapeutic approaches that goes beyond the diagnostic label or a single therapeutic model.
I tend to see clients with ADHD (diagnosed or suspected), autism characteristics, OCD, body dysmorphia, and health anxiety. I also see many clients who have issues with burnout, fatigue and medically unexplained symptoms.
I've been working with queer folk for a good long while now so I see a lot of trans, kinky, non-binary, intersex and aspec clients. I have systemic therapy training and so I also see couples, families and consult to organisations (mostly choirs at the moment).
Mostly the approaches I use are metacognitive therapy, inference-based CBT, systemic therapy, and radically open dialectical behaviour therapy. However, I also draw on psychodynamic thinking and other approaches where it is needed for the work.
I think it's fair to say I feel pretty informal to my clients in the session, but I'm super professional in my attitude to my work.
