Joana Miranda - Psychotherapeutic Counsellor
About the Therapist
My approach to counselling is warm, compassionate and grounded. I don't believe you need to arrive with everything figured out, or even know exactly what you want from counselling. Sometimes simply having somewhere to talk openly can be the starting point.
I see counselling as a collaborative process. You are the person who knows your own life and experiences best, and my role is to listen, support and explore things alongside you rather than tell you what you should do.
I aim to create a welcoming, LGBTQ+ affirming space where different identities, relationships, experiences and ways of living are respected and accepted. You can bring whatever feels important to you, at your own pace, without fear of judgement.
I also have a particular interest in mindfulness and meditation, and in how these practices can support greater self-awareness, grounding and connection with yourself. Where appropriate, these ideas can become part of our work together.

I am a qualified counsellor with a Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice (Level 5), with training in person-centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic approaches.
I work from a pluralistic perspective, recognising that counselling is not one-size-fits-all. Different approaches can be drawn upon and adapted according to your needs and preferences. This might involve exploring your thoughts and feelings, understanding patterns that may have developed over time, or developing practical tools to help you manage what you are experiencing.
I have a particular interest in anxiety, stress, burnout, self-esteem, feeling overwhelmed, as well as the experiences that can come with exploring identity, belonging and being part of the LGBTQ+ community.
We can work on individualised strategies together, including practical techniques, mindfulness exercises or different ways of approaching thoughts and feelings.
I am a member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and work in accordance with its ethical framework, with a commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
