Angie Macdonald - London Bridge
About the Therapist
As a mindfulness-based core process therapist my work is underpinned by Buddhist principles of mindfulness, compassion and unconditional acceptance. I believe that at our core, we are all inherently healthy, whole and wise.
As your therapist, I am able to offer you presence and awareness without judgement. I don’t believe I am an expert on you, but through a process of collaboration and joint enquiry with me in a safe space, you can take the time to get to know yourself on a much deeper level and access that part within you that already knows what is best for you – your core self or true nature. In my experience, this can lead to greater intimacy in relationships and more ease in life as you find yourself better able to deal with challenges and experience an overall sense of wellbeing.
I have a gentle, down-to-earth approach to therapy and bring empathy, intuition and curiosity into the relationship as well as a bit of humour from time to time.
I work in a trauma-informed and creative way – I enjoy working with the imaginal, whether that is images, dreams or role play. Whatever feels right in the moment for you. I pay attention to the body-mind relationship and often focus on awareness of the body in the present moment – this could be through the felt sense, breathing or even a bit of movement – as a way to get in touch with memories of life experiences that have been stored in our bodies long after our minds have forgotten them, calm the nervous system and begin the process of healing.
Having grown up in South Africa, I have a heightened awareness of the impact of oppression on people of a different race, culture, sexual identity or religion as well as the immigrant experience. As such, I am interested in questions around sexuality and sexual identity, difference and belonging as well as intergenerational trauma.
My work is underpinned by a deep love of and spiritual connection with nature, a belief in the inherent wisdom of the body and an embodied understanding of difference and the strengths and challenges held therein.

My Experience
I’m a UKCP Senior Trainee Therapist, currently in the accreditation process, and have a Diploma in Mindfulness-based Core Process Psychotherapy (MBCPP) from the Karuna Institute in Bristol.
I have worked as a placement therapist on the low cost counselling scheme at the Spiral holistic therapy centre in Islington, North London for the past three years and have also been a volunteer call handler for Mindline.
My background is in drama teaching, life coaching and web editing.
I have experience of working with clients in many different areas, some of which include:
- Recovering from an abusive relationship
- Growing up with an alcoholic parent
- Self-sabotage and people-pleasing
- Childhood trauma & sexual abuse
- Difficulty establishing strong and healthy boundaries
- Anxiety, depression, anger and grief.
My Approach
MBCPP offers a contemplative approach to psychotherapy, an opportunity to slow down and focus on the here and now, and acquire an awareness of yourself as an integrated body-mind. It allows you to gain an in-depth understanding of how you came to be the way you are now, what remains unresolved and what needs your attention.
Therapy is different for each client but in general, we will be working to relieve your suffering, build resilience and self-compassion and bring about more ease in your life.
In our sessions we might explore your early years and conditioning from caregivers and your culture, the ways in which you adapted. With greater awareness you will be able to recognise unhelpful patterns of being which are no longer serving you now and access your innate ability to transform and heal.
You don’t need to be a Buddhist or have any experience of mindfulness or meditation to experience core process psychotherapy. It is enough to just be as you are.
Short and Long-term therapy
Psychotherapy is typically in-depth and long-term for as long as you need it. I also offer short term therapy – anything from a minimum of 6 weeks to a few months to work on a particular issue.
I have spaces available for new clients in-person on Friday mornings near London Bridge & online Monday evenings & Tuesday mornings via Zoom.
