Chris Byrne
About the Therapist
Hi, I’m Chris, an online counsellor offering a warm, collaborative space for you to explore your story on your terms. I’m trained in psychodynamic, person-centred, and CBT approaches, and I believe therapy works best when it’s shaped together.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked in education for over 14 years, supporting students and staff through a wide range of emotional challenges.
I’m a gay cis man, and I bring both professional insight and lived experience to this work. I know what it’s like to carry shame, to navigate trauma and to have lived through codependent dynamics. I don’t believe these experiences define us, but I do believe they deserve to be met with compassion, not silence.

Pluralistic counselling is based on the understanding that there’s no single way to do therapy — because there’s no single way to be human. Especially for those of us whose gender, sexuality, or relationships fall outside the mainstream, healing can’t follow a one-size-fits-all model.
In a pluralistic approach, the counselling process is flexible and collaborative. Rather than being tied to one theory or method, we draw from a range of therapeutic practices — such as person-centred, psychodynamic, CBT, somatic, or creative approaches — depending on what you find helpful. Your voice, experience, and preferences are central. It’s not about “fixing” you to fit into a rigid system, but working together to find ways of understanding and supporting you that feel right for who you are.
This approach is especially powerful in GSRD work because it honours complexity. Whether you’re exploring your identity, unpacking shame, navigating non-monogamy, living with the impact of marginalisation, or just trying to make sense of your emotions, pluralistic counselling creates space for all of that — with curiosity, care, and respect.
You don’t need to leave parts of yourself at the door. Instead, we work together to build a therapeutic relationship where your whole self is welcome — not just tolerated, but centred.
