About the Therapist
I’m trans-femme with a unique sexuality, 67, with a lived experience as a neurodivergent (diagnosed dyslexic, dyspraxic, autistic and ADHD) highly sensitive, introverted night owl. I’m divorced twice with three children all of whom are grown up. I’ve lived in many parts of the country having moved 16 times in my life, but currently reside in Dalton-In-Furness, South Cumbria following a move here from Colchester, Essex in April 2018.
I came to counselling later in life having spent some 43 years working in both private and public sectors, in public administration, as well as the leisure, hospitality and logistic industries, including time in the USA driving transcontinental 'big-rigs'. Since qualifying as a counsellor I have gone on to become a tutor for Chrysalis Courses, and teach groups of counselling students at Liverpool Hope University in their second year of three (Level 4) Counselling Skills and Theory Level 5 Diploma course.
My journey to living as my authentic self occurred later in life, and involved understanding, accepting and incorporating the various identities of who I am into my full self. My lived experience and history frequently informs my work with clients and provides valuable lived experience to enable them to make better informed choices about themselves.

I work from a humanistic background which values and affirms you as an individual, accepting that what is true for you is true for you and that recognises and supports your desire to understand and change yourself. I aim to create a safe and secure environment in which you feel comfortable to address what is troubling you.
I utilise an integrated approach, based around a person-centered, affirming position, but using other theories that I have been trained in as appropriate. The bedrock of my work is in the depth and nature of the relationship that you and I can have which very much involves the core conditions of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard – I know that I’ve always been a very non-judgmental, accepting person. I also dig deeply into vulnerability and the benefits of being very open in terms of my own life experience and history and find modelling such behaviour in the therapeutic space helps to push back against and wash away any shame that you might be finding difficult to manage.
Ideally during the time that we work together we can create a balanced relationship between the two of us, working in a collaborative way to enable you to identify what is wrong and empowering you to decide for yourself how you want to go about changing it, if that is what you decide to do.
