Dan Mills-Da'Bell, MBACP (Accred)
About the Therapist
I'm Dan and my therapy practice is called DanMD Therapy. I also offer work as a consultant and supervisor. I've been working as a therapist for around 15 years, with experience before then in therapeutic communities. I'm a member of the LGTBQ+ community and while I can draw on my experience as a Queer person in a world not specifically built for Queer people, I'm always mindful and acutely aware that my experience isn't everybody's, and I welcome you and want to join you, hand in hand, through your experience. Mostly I work via video links, which is safe and secure, and can be very convenient for you to access, and perhaps enables you to feel safer too. I do offer walk and talk therapy locally in Nottinghamshire too, which some people can find comforting in being outdoors, and not feeling the pressure of being in a room or looking directly at somebody for a length of time. If you'd like to know a bit about me personally, my favourite place to be is at home with my incredible husband and my beautiful boxer dog (Norma). I also love to play the piano, go to the theatre (a particular passion of mine!), travel, play, and find joy wherever possible. I am a runner (which I can sometimes love and hate simultaneously), a reader, a lover of movies, and love being creative, including in therapy where appropriate too.

Available to offer sessions in any location (via video calls), or in Nottinghamshire for face to face Walk & Talk therapy (locations to be agreed outdoors, suitable for all including young people). I am a warm, compassionate, welcoming therapist utilising curiosity, empathy, and acceptance, to support and be alongside you. I have a lot of experience working alongside developmental trauma, which could be childhood abuse or neglect, and have worked extensively with young people, adults, families, parents, carers, looked after / care leavers, in therapeutic communities and individuals in sessions, as well as group therapy and family therapy, utilising DDP (Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy) to accept, empathise, and be curious whilst working with attachment issues. I have experience working with all ages, gender, sexual identity, with specific focus on the LGBTQ+ community (as well as all inclusive approach for everybody), being part of the LGTBQ+ community myself, and understanding many aspects including how it feels to live in a world not constructed for us, and what it can be like to navigate that world, as well as our close relationships, and how the relationships that should provide safety and compassion, too often don't. I have many resources and therapeutic approaches we can draw on to best meet your needs, which we’d discuss together, assessing what you might want and need, all with a focus on keeping you safe and providing a warm, safe relationship and environment. I will always be open and transparent with you, and like to take things at your pace, getting to know each other and building trust at whatever pace you might need within the number of sessions we can agree and review together. I like to provide a space that feels comfortable and if you’re unsure what to say or do, that’s absolutely fine and I can ask questions to help us to build a rapport. Above all, I’m here to join you and be alongside you, supporting you in whatever place you are in, emotionally, & through to the other side. I also work a lot with adoptive parents and families, adopted people, and care-experienced people.Currently offering virtual (video) sessions, Walk & Talk (outdoors) sessions for children, young people, adults, and families (different rates for families / groups). For Walk & Talk, locations to be agreed together & additional fee.Â
My first session
For our first session I might ask more questions than I usually would, so we can get a sense of what brings you to therapy, how best to support you, and assess what your needs might be so we can set expectations together.
