I'm David Mather and I'm the 53 year old founder of Lighthouse Psychotherapy and should you choose my business to support your needs, it will be me who you see.  I'm an out and proud Gay cis man and I welcome all members of the LGBTQI+ community into my practice.

I'm a qualified Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and I graduated from Northern Guild which is one of the leading Psychotherapy training institutes in the country.

I'm also a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) which means that I practice according the their strict ethical and moral guidelines.

Experience and approach:

I've been supporting members of the LGBTQI+ community for many years through work with charities and local organisations and now in my role as a therapist in private practice.  I understand the additional challenges posed to the community which can add to the pressure on our mental health and well being.

I'm described as a very warm and personable man who is strong but also gentle.  I'm an integrative therapist which means that I can work in a way that suits the needs of an individual client and can draw on many different approaches to tailor-make a service that suits your own needs.

My main modality is a Psychodynamic approach based around Transactional Analysis which I use to inform me on exactly how a client is struggling with.  This approach can be used alongside many others to help alleviate client suffering and the symptoms of emotional distress.

I can also work creatively at times when clients may be stuck by using creative media which I have with me in my therapy room.

Hi!  I'm David and I'm an Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and  I work with therapeutically with children, young people and adults.

I run a private practice in the heart of North Shields in the cozy attic space of a Victorian terrace house which is readily accessible by bus and metro and there is plenty of roadside parking outside.  My practice is set up for talking therapy and also for more creative work.  I offer clay, paint and art materials and I have a sand tray for those clients who prefer to also work with their hands.  Within the practice there is also access to a WC.
