About the Therapist
It was while volunteering with 56 Dean Street, a sexual health clinic in the heart of Soho, that I decided to become a Personal Counsellor. I volunteered as a Chemsex support worker and would talk to gay men who were struggling with substance misuse. Since qualifying I have been a counsellor with Metro which is an equality and diversity charity. I have always felt driven to work within the community so when creating Cherry Orchard Therapy one of my aims was to provide a service with an overt focus on supporting the LGBTQ+ community. My counselling work continues to be rich and varied. I am privileged to work with clients from all areas of the LGBTQ+ community including trans and non-binary. In recent years I have taught counselling to adults, and I am a counsellor at one of the UK’s leading Drama Schools.

My sessions are one-on-one (individual counselling) and usually take place once a week. I provide you with a space in which to reflect upon and explore the issues that you are experiencing. As a ‘Person Centred’ counsellor my role in the therapeutic relationship is that of an equal rather than an expert or teacher. What that means is that I will walk alongside you as you delve into the issues that you are facing. I will act as a guide, shining a spotlight upon things that you say or do. Most of the work that takes place in the counselling room will be done by you. Counselling is not always easy but it can be transformative if the environment, time and relationship is right. Many clients hope that I will tell them what to do or that I will give them a quick fix. I certainly can not fix problems for you but I can work with you as you learn to repair yourself. Since completing counsellor training, some specific areas of study have been addiction, LGBTQ+ counselling, suicide, shame, bereavement and compulsivity. I have also studied Existential and Cognitive Behavioural Counselling. These models have informed my practice but the principles of the Person Centred Approach are always at the core of my work with clients.
