Debbie Clements (M.A. GSRD Accredited therapist)
About the Therapist
Hi,
I'm Debbie and I'm a BACP (Senior Accredited) and Pink Therapy advanced accredited counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor supporting LGBTQIA+ adults and young people alongside anyone who is looking for support around their gender, sexuality or relationship diversity.
I hold a Masters Degree in Gender, Sexuality and Culture and have undergone specialist training in the area. My work is also informed by previous roles supporting LGBTQI+ communities as a Youth and Community Development Worker (JNC) and through personal experience. I've worked in the mental health field for over 25 years and have supported around a wide range of issues. I'm committed towards anti-oppressive practice including anti-racism and engage in continuous personal and professional development.Â
My therapeutic approach is from a relational perspective, recognising the impact that our relationships with others (e.g. friends, partners, family, communities, society) and our relationship with ourselves has on our wellbeing. I seek to provide a warm, secure and affirming space where we will explore your thoughts and feelings together to help you deepen your understanding of yourself, your patterns of relating (both to self and others) and support you in making internal and/or external changes that enhance your wellbeing.Â
Does this sounds like what you are looking for? If so, please get in touch.
I also work as a supervisor to trainee, established counsellors and those in the charity and public sector.Â
I am currently working online and over the phone across the UK and beyond (please note some legal restrictions apply outside UK). Video sessions-there is an option to keep video switched off if this is a preference.Â

I have extensive experience supporting people who are trans and (navigating social, psychological and often medical transition such as surgery, HRT), people coming out later in life as non-binary, lesbian, bisexual, gay, trans, queer, poly, pansexual, ENM, asexual and polyam, for example.Â
I work affirmatively around neurodiversity and towards accessibility for disabled and working class people (and have lived experience here). I am committed to anti-racist practice and have completed various trainings including with BAATN.
Please see my website for a full list of my extensive training: https://counsellingserviceleeds.co.uk/about/
The talk therapy approach I use in based on the relational approach. This approach draws on exploring how our childhood /early life experiences impact on how we experience relationships with ourself and others in adult life. People have reported that this approach has helped them to build a more self-aware and self compassionate relationship with themselves and healthier relationships with others, such as boundary setting. Many clients have found this approach has helped them to gain clarity and the confidence to make the changes they wanted to make in their lives such as coming out/letting others in, transitioning and navigating other life challenges.
