Diego Avila - Integrative Relational Psychotherapist
About the Therapist
I believe that we are a product of our past, however we are not "destined" to have a certain life simply because of our history. Sometimes, the way we "are" simply doesn't make sense anymore, causing us emotional pain, impacting on the relationship we have with ourselves as well as those important to us.
As gay men in particular we are "trained" from a young age not to listen or trust our intuition, or accept the way that we are. This sometimes results in repressed emotional experiences that end up "popping up" through unhelpful behaviour, such as Compulsive Use of Sex, an area of expertise I work with, facilitating this exploration to individual and couples' clients.

Drawing upon a variety of personality development theories, the process of counselling and psychotherapy that I facilitate is about exploring who you are and who you want to be.
From Attachment to Psychosocial, Person-Centred to Existential, Freud, Rogers and Jung, we are going to reflect on what works for you, in an integrative way.
However, the most fundamental resource we will have will be the relationship that you and I will establish. Because indeed, personality can only develop through relationship.
The Psychosexual work that I facilitate is supported by specialised trained based on contemporary sexological models of understanding and working with human sexuality
