Dr Benjamin Piper
About the Therapist
My private practice is called iRise Psychology and we are a group of psychologists and CBT therapists who operate in London from Liverpool Street in the City. We offer short and long-term therapies drawing from cognitive behavioural (CBT), Schema Therapy and Compassion focus therapy (CFT). Also, I am trained to use EMDR.Â
Painful life events or personal issues embedded in our experiences of relationships, careers and health can be difficult to struggle with alone. For many, talking through these issues with a psychologist can help a person to understand the origins of their problems and learn to understand the process by which any issues are reinforced and maintained. Psychologists use evidenced based techniques in order to help you with this process and work to improve your condition.
Sometimes, putting thoughts and feelings to the back of our minds only leads us to gain temporary relief from our pain as issues remain unresolved and can often keep returning. Therefore, it can be very good to talk!

I have been working as a full time qualified therapist for the last 12 years but have worked within the field of mental health for around 17 years. I have extensive experience working to a short-term/ time-limited model. This includes working with the following conditions:
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Social Anxiety and Phobia
Agoraphobia
Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Specific Phobias
Panic Attacks/ Disorder
Health Anxiety
Sleep Disorders
Anger
Stress
Low Self-Esteem
Adjustment Disorders.
Depression.
In addition, I work over a longer-term with some clients. These clients may need a longer term therapy approach due to the chronic nature of their difficulties. Many of these people have experienced difficulties in childhood, or started to experience difficulties as a result of traumatic event/s, and as a result are now struggling within relationships with others or with themselves.
Other specialist areas are:
Working with the LGBTQI+ community.
Working with anxiety disorders.
My therapeutic approach as a counselling psychologist is integrative and I draw from Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic and Humanistic therapy. In addition, I also have a keen interest in Mindfulness Meditation, compassion focused therapy and schema therapy. Also, I am trained to use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) treatment. My therapeutic style is adapted to best meet the individual needs of each client I see. I abide by the code of ethics of the Health Professions Council and British Psychological Society.
