Dr. Kathy Mackenzie-White Online Clinical Psychologist & Sex Therapist
About the Therapist
I’m passionate about providing queer-affirmative therapy — supporting people of all identitie to access ethical, effective, and high quality psychological care for whatever is most important to them and their lives right now. My aim is to offer a space where people feel fully seen, understood, and enabled to move towards their preferred lives, in spite of what they have lived through.
Alongside my therapeutic work, I teach on the UCL and other leading clinical psychology doctoral training programmes. I’m known for being passionate, informed, and compassionate in how I enable people who’ve lived through adversity to live as freely as possible from its effects — and for helping other psychologists to centre people’s hopes, strengths, social contexts and needs in their therapy work. I care deeply about the therapy I do, and am committed to being the best therapist I can be.

I’m trained to see and understand people as a whole — integrating their emotional well-being, physical health, relationships, and the influences of the social, cultural and political environments they’ve lived through. The therapies I offer include compassion-focused therapy, which supports people in working with shame, self-criticism, threat, and activated nervous systems, and in understanding how our minds and bodies are shaped by the experiences we’ve lived through (and how we can move beyond this). I also draw on systemic therapy, which takes seriously the importance of our social worlds — for example, recognising the impact of our family experiences, oppression and/or marginalisation. I am also a specialist in sex therapy for a range of sexual difficulties and differences, including low libido, painful sex and difficulties with arousal.
I integrate these and other evidence-informed psychological approaches to best fit each person, their context, and their hopes. I’m experienced in supporting people living with overwhelm, anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, trauma and relationship tensions. I’ve specialised in working with people living with a range of sexual health diagnoses including HIV and HSV (herpes) and people who have experienced unwanted or forced sexual experiences, enabling them to move towards their preferred lives. I also work with parents seeking to balance their many important commitments with greater calm, confidence, and resilience.
My NHS background has given me extensive experience in focused, short-term therapy, while private practice allows me to work more flexibly — offering medium- and longer-term support that aligns with each person’s goals, history, values and hopes.
