Emily Hodgkinson
About the Therapist
I obtained my diploma in Process-Oriented Psychology (Processwork) in 2008 and became a UKCP-accredited psychotherapist in 2009. I ran a counselling service at Leicester LGB&T Centre for six years and have taught therapists about Gender, Sexual & Relationship Diversity in a variety of contexts including with Pink Therapy. I was also a co-founder of Poly Counsellors UK and am a member of Therapists Against Conversion Therapy & Transphobia.
I identify as white, middle-class, queer, neurodivergent, poly and kinky.
An enduring passion in my life and my work is around sexuality, gender and relationships. Over many years I have worked mostly with clients from a wide spectrum of sexual, relationship and gender diversity. My work is increasingly informed by the idea of neuroqueerness, and I tend to attract clients whose identity or experience includes neurodiversity, kink, gender diversity, ethical non-monogamy & polyamory, chronic illness & disability, and people navigating multiple forms of marginalisation and oppression.

Process-Oriented Psychology (or Processwork) is a post-Jungian, depth-oriented approach that pays attention to thoughts, emotions, body experience, dreams and relationships as pathways to deeper understanding. This training means I take a flexible and collaborative approach, tailoring to the client's needs, goals and way of being and allowing each new situation to be the teacher in any moment. I'm here not only to help you solve problems but also to support your growth and help you get in touch with your deepest nature. I find that change often emerges naturally when we slow down and explore together what is happening in your moment-to-moment experience, allowing space for new patterns to unfold rather than pushing against the flow of your experience.
I aim to offer a space that feels warm, empathic, grounded and real. I'm passionate about growth - yours and mine - and am continually developing my practice through on-going personal development and professional learning. I'm also passionate about social justice and aspire to being the change I want to see in the world. I've been told people feel safer when I'm in the room.
Processwork also includes working with body experience, symptoms and illness. Following my own recent experience of Long Covid, this has evolved into a deep personal and professional interest. I'm particularly excited by how Process-Oriented bodywork has the potential to help transform our experience of symptoms and illness, and also address the social marginalisation that often accompanies chronic health conditions.
