Emma Berry (Em)
About the Therapist
I aim to bring a warm, reliable and inclusive approach to psychodynamic counselling. This is not always the experience that queer, trans and neurodiverse clients have had previously (both in counselling and in life) and I try to provide a different experience.
I offer a confidential space where you can bring the parts of yourself that feel confused, stuck, unwelcome, or overwhelmed. The therapeutic relationship is an important part of this work.
I meet with clients once a week at the same time, to build trust and consistency.
Over time, having a steady and reliable space can help you feel more secure in yourself and able to navigate closeness in your life outside therapy.

My approach
I work from a psychodynamic and attachment-informed perspective. This means I explore how past experiences and relationships might shape how you feel and relate to others in the present.
During our work, I might explore patterns in your current relationships, including in the therapeutic relationship itself. Paying attention to what happens between us can offer insight into how you protect yourself and connect with others.
Experience
I have experience working both short and long term with a range of client groups and issues including: depression & anxiety, trauma & abuse, grief and bereavement, attachment issues, relationship difficulties, autism & ADHD, LGBTQ+ clients and polyamory.
I carried out short and long term clinical placements at Lifelink & The Wynd Centre in Paisley during my training, as well as having worked as a volunteer counsellor in a low cost service after qualifying.
I currently work in private practice. Alongside my clinical work, I mentor and provide therapeutic consultancy in a homelessness project in the East End of Glasgow.
Before training as a therapist, I worked in a range of roles. These included youth homelessness, supporting care leavers, residential care, research, and administration.
These experiences shape my practice, helping me to provide grounded, compassionate support alongside my psychodynamic training.
