About the Therapist
Specialisms
The majority of my client group is within LGBTQ+ identities, what is often referred to now as GSRD.
My personal gender story
I have a trans history, meaning I have gone through a process of gender transition over many years.
I identify as male, yet I can use differing words/labels for my gender: These being man, trans man/masculine, trans, trans history. There will likely be many more gendered labels I can occupy and fluctuate between over time, space and history. This is a demonstration that gender is not singular and gendered language is a socially constructed component of gender.
Having this experience of social and medical transition has enabled me to have a good understanding of the processes of gender transition. However, there is of course the subjective experience of being trans, which is unique to each person.
I hold a very wide perspective of what trans is and have learnt to be mindful not to project my experience of trans onto clients. We all have a different gender journey and a different understanding of who we are.
I take an intersectional approach, aware of my own identities when working with clients with their intersections. This may mean I need to acknowledge and name the therapeutic power dynamic and influence.  My way of working with clients exploring gender and sexuality/expression is to support with curiosity, acknowledgement and affirmation.
My background and experience is very eclectic from many years working in the media and creative industries, to working as a gardener. I currently live in the woods in rural Devon and developing a nature therapy practice that I hope to offer as a group space for the queer communities of the South West soon.

My approach is based on my belief that we are all intrinsically whole and it is our innate human desire to reconnect to that wholeness. All of us at some point in our life are meet with situations or crisis points that may cause us to struggle on our journey.
I work with an integrative psychosynthesis approach that includes gestalt, psychodynamic, person centered, existential, transpersonal (spiritual) models. I also offer somatic (body), and EFT modalities. Some other ways I work are more creative, such as drawings, visualisations, inner child dialogue, mindfullness, body movements.
In more recent years I have been incorporating the knowledge of neuroscience into my practice. Working especially with polyvagal theory and the autonomic nervous system. This is especially relevant when working with trauma. However, it is the relationship between client and therapist that is at the very heart of the therapeutic process.
My area of specialism is with gender diverse/expansive clients. Since beginning working as a therapist, I have worked with 180 people+ who identify under the trans/non binary umbrella and many other clients who identify as GSRD. The last 5 years has been focused primarily on GSRD client groups.
I also offer psychosexual therapy primarily for GSRD identities. However, I am also happy to work psychosexually with cis folk. It was from personal experience (as a client) I was unable to find a therapist experienced or equipped to work with trans desire/sexual bodies/feelings, or the erotic that I decided to train as a GSRD and psychosexual counsellor.
GSRD clients come for many reasons and I don't assume that the therapy needs to focus purely on the clients identity. Examples of what I offer help with are: Dating concerns, desirability, body image, disassociated states, gender dysphoria, issues of transition; relationship concerns, relationship styles outside of mono-normativity, sexual identities/behaviours outside of cis/hetero-normativity, navigating an intersectional identity, neurodivergent identities, disabled bodies, trauma, abuse, oppression and shame.
I also work with more generalised difficulties such as depression, anxiety, OCD spectrums, self harm, abuse, addictions.
Alongside my private practice I work part time as a tutor at the Minster Centre, London, teaching GSRD to psychotherapy students.
Previous GSRD work includes:
2018-2021- Counsellor for The Clare Project, a Brighton charity supporting trans / non-binary identified people.
2018 - Trainee psychosexual counsellor -Â NHS, South London and Maudsley psychosexual services.
