Joe Atkinson
About the Therapist
Hi, I'm Joe and I'm passionate about helping people through times of difficulty. Maybe you are feeling depressed, anxious or agitated? Or you're struggling in your relationships, your job or with enjoying life? Are you noticing yourself feeling angry or upset a lot of the time? Whatever it may be, I offer a space to sit with, listen to and make sense of what you're experiencing. I can help you to understand why you are struggling. Counselling can help you to gain a different perspective on yourself and your past. Together we can get to the root of what is happening in your life and with new perspective and compassion you can start to experience some relief and freedom. I am experienced in working with a range of issues including depression, ADHD, trauma, PTSD, addiction, autism, relationship issues with family and children. I am one of the first Certified Compassionate Inquiry Practitioners in the UK, trained in addiction psychology, play therapy and attachment based developmental science. Along with my qualifications and experience, I bring curiosity, compassion, courage and calm to our relationship, to help make sense of what you're going through. Send me an email and I’ll invite you for a free 15 minute consultation in which we can get to know each other a little better and you can ask any questions that you want to, get to know a bit more about me and my work. There is no obligation to enter into anything and I will happily assist in guiding you elsewhere if I can.

After originally working in the addictions field I re-trained as a teacher, before qualifying as a play therapist and working with children in schools for a number of years. I am passionate and interested in child development and can bring insight to relationships with children as well as how you experienced your own childhood. In the last 5 years, I am working more exclusively with adults and am a certified Compassionate Inquiry Practitioner designed and run by Dr Gabor Maté as well as regularly studying at the Neufeld Institute an Attachment Based Developmental Science approach with Dr Gordon Neufeld.
