Juan Michael
About the Therapist
My full name is Juan Michael Gonzalez which gives a sense of my intersectional and cultural identities. I have a Scottish accent, Spanish name and indigenous roots. l began training as a counsellor in 2012 and since qualifying in 2018 I have been offering sessions through my private practice. In addition I am a tutor at the organisation where I trained which reflects my passion for life long learning and for the healing potential of therapy. Owing to my ongoing professional development, in Jungian Analysis, I also offer twice and three times a week analytic sessions. My original training was integrative and transpersonal. These terms may or may not mean anything to you and it's something I can say more about in a meeting - if it's helpful to understand. My style is particularly shaped by the principles of Jungian Psychology and my own particular personality. I have been told I am warm, calm and non-judgemental. Also, I am an attentive listener and generally a dedicated and conscientious person.

I have experience of working with a range of people and a range of issues. Common neuroses include anxiety, depression, phobias, compulsions, etc. Also, I have experience working with more complex and longer term issues such as early years and childhood abuse, addictions, shame, impacts of prejudice, discrimination/marginalisation, challenges with gender, sexuality and sense of individual identity, cultural complexes, neurodivergence, autism spectrum, adhd, comorbidity and inter generational trauma, etc.
I take an inclusive and non-pathologizing approach to therapy - approaching you as a whole person. I will approach you and your process with the formality and respect you/it deserve (and should expect) whilst also making space for lightness and humour.
In my experience exploring deeper parts of ourselves is well supported by good faith and positive rapport between one another - which can be grown over time, as part of our therapeutic relationship.
Things that can support the process such as noticing and sharing your dreams, journalling, creativity, body work, good sleep and supportive nutrition. Dreams can help guide the process as they arise authentically from your individuality and unconscious. I am trained to facilitate understanding the language of dreams and therefore to facilitate you to begin to become more aware of and understand more about your own unconscious material. This can lead to a processes of integration which means incorporating more of yourself, easing and letting go of defences which no longer serve you and basically becoming more naturally yourself.
Ultimately, there's no guarantees, therapy isn't always comfortable and I don't have the answers! Yet, with commitment and collaboration something good and better is possible.
