I work from an attachment and relational approach with my clients, which means that there is an important focus in therapy on relationships past and present, and how central they are to how we feel and who we feel ourselves to be. How secure or otherwise our relationships are has an enormous impact on many aspects of our lives and emotional well-being. Exploring past relationships can help us understand our feelings about ourselves and others, and exploring the dynamics of how we interact with others in the present can help us to change our current relationships for the better.
Clients bring a very wide range of issues to therapy. I have worked extensively with clients who experience anxiety, including social anxiety; depression; post-traumatic stress, including complex trauma (usually where the client has experienced childhood abuse); sexual and relationship problems; identity issues, including gender, class, race and culture; dissociation.
I aim to create a safe and supportive environment for my clients in therapy, as a secure base from which to explore the issues that clients want to talk about.
I have significant experience in working with clients who have experienced trauma of various kinds, both in childhood and as adults, and with clients who experience dissociation as a result of traumatic experiences.
