Kate Scott
About the Therapist
I am a BACP-registered psychodynamic counsellor with extensive experience supporting children, young people and adults. I have worked in secondary schools for over 14 years and continue to work in educational settings alongside my private practice, supporting both students and staff.
My approach is relational and client-led. I believe that feeling understood and supported is at the heart of meaningful change, and I work at a pace that feels right for each person. I aim to build a genuine therapeutic relationship where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences without pressure or judgement.
I have extensive experience working with neurodivergent clients and with LGBTQIA+ individuals. I also have lived experience of neurodivergence (ADHD and autism) and of the LGBTQIA+ community. These experiences help inform my understanding while never leading me to make assumptions about your own experiences.
Alongside my work in schools, I have also worked in a secure adult institutional setting, which has shaped my understanding of trauma, resilience and the impact of challenging life experiences.
I also have significant experience of working with twins, both professionally and through my own lived experience as a parent of twins. This has given me a deeper understanding of the unique dynamics that can arise within twin relationships and family life.
I know how daunting it can feel to find the right therapist. To help you get a sense of how I work, I offer a free 15-minute introductory call so we can see whether working together feels like a good fit.

My approach is relational and client-led. I believe that feeling understood and supported is at the heart of meaningful change, and I work at a pace that feels right for each person.
As a psychodynamic counsellor, I am interested in how past experiences and relationships may influence the way we feel about ourselves, others and the world around us. Together, we can explore patterns, emotions and experiences that may be affecting you in the present. This can lead to greater self-understanding, new perspectives and lasting change. However, there is no expectation to explore anything before you feel ready, and we will always work in a way that feels comfortable for you.
I have over 14 years' experience working in secondary schools, supporting children, young people and adults. I continue to work in educational settings alongside my private practice, supporting both students and staff. This allows me to stay connected to the realities facing young people today and grounded in current safeguarding practice.
Alongside my work in schools, I have also worked in a secure adult institutional setting. This experience has deepened my understanding of trauma, resilience, complex life experiences and the ways people adapt to adversity.
I work with young people and adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, identity issues, relationship difficulties, loss, life transitions and feeling stuck or overwhelmed.
I also have extensive experience supporting people affected by trauma and am trained in Rewind Therapy. Rewind can be integrated into ongoing counselling or offered as a short-term intervention. It is a gentle and structured approach which can help reduce the distress associated with traumatic memories and PTSD symptoms without requiring you to describe the trauma in detail.
I work exclusively online and by telephone because I have seen how valuable this way of working can be for many people. Being able to access counselling from your own environment allows you to create a space that feels comfortable and supportive. You might choose to sit in your favourite chair, have a comfort object nearby, cuddle a pet, or simply be in surroundings where you feel most at ease.
Online counselling also removes practical barriers such as travelling, traffic and parking. This can make therapy more accessible for people with disabilities, chronic health conditions, caring responsibilities, busy schedules, or those who find travelling difficult.
For young people, online counselling can offer additional benefits. Schools are often able to provide a private room and laptop during the school day, allowing students to attend sessions without missing significant amounts of lesson time travelling to and from appointments. Online work can also be a more manageable option for young people experiencing anxiety, school-related difficulties, emotionally based school avoidance, or those who find unfamiliar environments overwhelming.
Although sessions take place remotely, I place great importance on building a genuine and trusting therapeutic relationship. Many people are surprised by how connected and meaningful online counselling can feel, while offering the flexibility and comfort of accessing support from a place where they feel most comfortable.
