Dr Marianne Promberger - EMDR & Relational Psychotherapy SE1
About the Therapist
I’m a UKCP-accredited integrative psychotherapist. My early career was in psychological research, and I hold a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania.
I’ve trained extensively in EMDR, trauma work, and relational therapy. My approach is also informed by embodied practices like the Alexander Technique. I pay particular attention to how trauma can intersect with experiences of sexual difference, LGBTQ+ identity, and neurodivergence — both through internalised messages and the impact of marginalisation or misunderstanding over time.
I grew up in Germany and have lived in London for over 15 years, with time spent in the U.S. and Berlin. My lived experience of crossing cultural and personal identities continues to shape the way I listen and support others.

Experience and Approach
I’ve worked in private practice for several years, as well as in short-term therapy settings, including within the NHS. My approach is:
-
Relational psychodynamic – exploring how early and ongoing relational experiences shape your patterns, emotions, and ways of being today
-
Trauma-aware – attentive to how overwhelming or invalidating experiences can affect your nervous system, relationships, and sense of self
-
EMDR-informed – using EMDR where appropriate to support the processing of stuck or distressing memories
-
Neurodivergence-aware – supporting clients who identify as neurodivergent, are questioning traits, or are navigating neurodivergence in relationships or families
