Dr Marianne Promberger - EMDR & Relational Psychotherapy SE1
About the Therapist
I’m a UKCP-accredited integrative psychotherapist with additional full EMDR training.
I work with many clients who are questioning or exploring their identity in various ways, including sexuality, neurodivergence, or the impact of straddling different cultures. Clients bring a range of symptoms such as low self-esteem, shame, depression, anxiety, or a feeling of being stuck. You might appear to function pretty well from the outside, but you want to shift your adaptations and relational patterns, and stop avoiding emotional or life experience that you really want.
My early career was in psychological research, and I hold a PhD in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. I subsequently changed track and trained as a teacher in the Alexander Technique -- a completely different, embodied way of learning and knowing.
I grew up in Germany and have lived in London for over 15 years, and have also spent several years in the U.S. and in Berlin.

I am a UKCP accredited integrative psychotherapist (MSc, Metanoia Institute/ Middlesex University) with additional fully completed EMDR training (EMDR Association UK & Ireland).
I also hold a PhD in (non-clinical) psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and am a fully trained teacher of the Alexander Technique (ATI).
I work with a range of client experiences, including depression, shame, low self-esteem, anxiety, life tranitions, bereavement, questions around sexuality and sexual identity, and neurodivergence.
I integrate different therapy approaches. My main approach is relational psychodynamic: The therapy relationship is key to healing. Earlier (and very early) relational experiences shape your patterns, emotions, and ways of being today. We explore them through talking, but the therapy relationship is also a place where you might experience these patterns and where they can be safely held between us in an emotionally tranformative way. I am fully trained in EMDR and integrating this can help process traumatic memories without having to talk about them extensively. EMDR can also be very useful to process experiences that may be seem to "insignificant" but have had a traumatic impact on you. I invite all clients to joinly give attention to dreams, a powerful emotional connection to your unconscious, which is to say parts of you that aren't allowed to come out in a straightforward way while you are awake, or that you might need to pay more attention to.
