Personal therapy can be a safe, confidential space to explore what is going on for you. Some people have a specific area they want to talk about while others might want to explore a range of issues. You are welcome to discuss anything in therapy with me. I work collaboratively with clients, supporting you to reflect on your own needs or hopes.
My core therapy training was an integrative course using Egan’s model to blend humanistic, psychodynamic, and cognitive therapy into a cohesive approach. Throughout my training we worked creatively, embracing collage, art and poetry. I have carried this over to my client work as I offer working creatively to explore mental health.
I also offer Psychosexual and Relationship therapy which is a specialist type of therapy designed to address both sexual and relational issues for individuals, couples, throuples, polycules, and other relationship dynamics. Psychosexual issues may include erectile dysfunction, rapid or delayed ejaculation, vaginismus, pain during sex, compulsive sexual behaviours, or Chemsex. Some examples of relational issues include communication difficulties, trust issues, recurring arguments, or navigating changing relational dynamics.
For many people, sex and relationship issues can be isolating due to stigma. I aim to create a safe space where you can explore and reflect on all aspects of sex or relationships that you want to understand. Together we can develop a clear idea of what is going on for you and your partner(s). This will allow us to create a plan to help address the issues you are facing, tailored to your needs and hopes.
I primarily work with Queer, Neurodivergent, and Kink communities and bring lived experience as a member of these communities. I understand the unique issues that many people in these groups face and have significant experience with addressing those challenges. This experience is further underpinned by training and CPD. Prior to training as a therapist, I spent years working and volunteering for different LGBT+ organisations.
Areas of Specialism: Queerness, Autism, Kink/BDSM, Chemsex, and Spirituality.
I have extensive experience working within the LGBTQIA+ community. I began working in this area in 2007. I have a deep understanding of Queer culture and issues faced by our community. I work with clients around identity, belonging, minority stress, or trauma from homophobia/biphobia/transphobia. I also support clients with fostering Queer joy and resilience. I have written about Queer Spirituality and have experience working with survivors of conversion practices.
I have significant experience working with autistic clients and take a neuro-affirmative approach in my work. I recognise societal structures that impact autistic people in their daily lives. I can support autistic clients with understanding sensory profiles, unmasking, and acceptance. I conducted the first study into autistic people's experiences of psychosexual therapy, which is currently being peer reviewed for publication. Please note that I do not offer ABA. Research indicates that this harms autistic people.
I offer Kink knowledgeable therapy underpinned by experience and training. I am able to work with clients to understand and explore their Kink/BDSM identities. I regularly work with clients around addressing safe Kink/BDSM practice, finding community, addressing internalised shame or navigating relational dynamics. I have experience working with clients in Dom/sub relationships and other dynamics. I welcome clients to bring their authentic selves and feel safe to explore any aspect of their Kink/BDSM life in therapy.
Chemsex is a particularly complex issue that is rapidly growing in the UK. Chemsex is the use of drugs such as Crystal Meth, GHB/GBL, or Methamphetamine to enhance sexual experiences primarily for men who have sex with men. The reasons for Chemsex use are complicated and I offer specialist support for people who are wanting to address their Chemsex use. I work with clients in recovery and clients who are actively engaging with Chemsex. Whether you are looking to stop Chemsex altogether or are wanting to better understand and take control of your use, I may be able to support you with this.
