About the Therapist
My M.A in Integrative Psychotherapy covered four years of training and is accredited by the University of East London (UEL) & the HCPC (Health & Care Professions Council). I also have degrees in Psychology at both Bachelors and Master's level from Goldsmiths and Birkbeck Colleges respectively. Both colleges are part of the University of London. My Psychotherapy training also included working with the arts and sand tray. Â

My qualifications are as follows:- -BSc in Psychology from Goldsmiths College, London University. -MSc in Work Psychology from Birkbeck College, London University -MA in Integrative Psychotherapy, University of East London And my webpage is below :- https://matthewgroom.uk
In addition to my private practice I also work at ELOP (East London Out Project) a charity offering counselling and psychotherapy for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Prior to working at ELOP, I worked as an integrative psychotherapist in the NHS with a broad range of clients, both individually and in groups. Prior to becoming a psychotherapist I worked for nearly twenty years in the financial sector in the city of London and canary wharf and like many of my clients, I have experienced working in stressful and demanding work environments. As an integrative psychotherapist I work with a variety of theoretical approaches. My psychotherapy training has been vigorous and has given me a solid foundation in Gestalt, person-centred, psychodynamic and Transactional Analysis psychotherapies. I am also trained and qualified to use the arts and sand tray in therapy. I adapt my approach to suit the individual and will work in harmony with your needs. The advantage of an integrative approach, which uses more than one body of theory, is that it allows me to be more flexible in meeting your needs and understanding how you want therapy to proceed. I prefer not to direct and to let you take the lead but can also provide a helpful structure as and when you need it. I am interested in your thoughts and feelings and want to understand your world. I do not give advice on how to live your life because I believe the answers are all in you.

Fees and Initial Meeting £60 per session (50mins) @off-peak times (before 4.30pm Monday to Friday) £65 per session (50mins) @peak times (after 4.30pm Monday to Friday) I also offer a limited number of concessionary rates for people on lower incomes. Please enquire for further details. The initial meeting is a free consultation and gives us the chance to meet each other and decide whether we are comfortable working together going forward. I will ask you why you are seeking therapy and also ask some questions about your current life and life history to better understand you and what it is you are looking for. If we agree to continue after this initial meeting, we will then arrange a day and time for ongoing sessions and sign the Therapy Contract. The Therapy Contract is not a legally binding contract but confirms what is expected of both client and therapist and can be found on my webpage, which is given above.
