Mya Rose Therapy
About the Therapist
Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a barber for over a decade. That experience shaped my understanding of people, as I often discussed grief, relationships, loneliness, anxiety, and identity, gaining insight into how people hide their struggles.
This led me to counselling, where I earned a First-Class BSc (Hons) in Counselling and trained in Solution-Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy. I now work privately and as a counsellor at Spectra, supporting trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse clients with identity, relationships, and transitions. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and the Association for Solution-Focused Hypnotherapists (AfSFH).
My approach is humanistic and existential. I explore questions like "Who am I without performing?" How did I lose connection with myself? What makes life meaningful? I also focus on addiction, trauma, attachment, and cultural influences, with ongoing professional development.
I see therapy as more than symptom relief; it's about honesty, reflection, and change. Many people spend years adapting to survive or meet others’ expectations, often neglecting their own needs. I incorporate solution-focused hypnotherapy to help clients understand themselves and make practical changes.
My own experiences with transition have taught me that growth is non-linear, requiring courage, uncertainty, and self-compassion. Clients often describe me as warm, approachable, and non-judgmental. I offer a space that feels grounded, collaborative, and safe for exploration.

My approach draws on existential, psychodynamic, and solution-focused methods, integrating these styles and tailoring therapy to each individual rather than following a single model. I am curious about how our past relationships, experiences, identities, and social contexts influence us, and I guide clients in exploring what meaningful change looks like in their current lives. Psychodynamic therapy examines how early relationships and past events shape our habits, behaviours, and emotions. Together, we work to bring unconscious thoughts and feelings into awareness, supporting you in releasing old patterns. Existential therapy considers feelings of anxiety, disconnection, or confusion not merely as problems, but as chances to deepen self-understanding. It emphasises living authentically and embracing life's uncertainties, helping you clarify your goals. Solution-focused therapy encourages practical, everyday changes that quickly reduce symptoms and boost well-being.
These three approaches naturally complement each other.
One asks who am I, and how do I want to live? The other explores why I keep living this way. The final asks what do I want to do to make a change?
Clients often come to me with anxiety, burnout, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, identity questions, grief, trauma, loneliness, or a sense of feeling stuck. I aim to offer a warm, thoughtful, and affirming space where all parts of you are welcome, and where you don't have to navigate life's challenges alone.
I focus not only on the challenges you face but also on exploring their origins and what sustains them. Together, we can examine patterns in relationships, identity, self-esteem, and emotional well-being, while opening up space for new ways of relating to yourself. In the room, you’ll experience me as warm and reflective, and if necessary, challenging and practical. My practice is informed by an understanding of minority stress, cultural and racial diversity, masking and double masking, and the social pressures that affect LGBTQIA+ individuals and neurodivergent people. My goal is to foster a therapeutic relationship where you feel truly understood rather than judged, analysed, or managed.
