Oliver Thompson MBACP
About the Therapist
I am a queer trans man in my 30s, from West Yorkshire. I use the Person-Centred Approach in my practice, and I qualified in 2022. I come from a working class background, so I understand the importance of keeping therapy affordable.
If you're unsure if I am the right therapist for you, you can book a one off session at a discounted rate with no pressure to continue sessions if I am not the right fit for you. Please see the "Fees" section for further information. Â
I currently work remotely with clients from all over the UK (and occasionally Europe).
I also practice in-person out of Our House (LGBTQ+ community hub) in Wakefield city centre.Â
Our House is wheelchair accessible, with no step to access the building and a gender neutral accessible toilet on site.Â
Unfortunately, I only work with adults at this time.

My aim is to provide a comfortable space for someone to explore their sense of self, their feelings, and their lives, without the fear of judgement. Resulting in you gaining a deeper understanding of yourself, and your place within this world.
I was drawn to the Person-Centred Approach due to its humanistic and non-directive nature, and the focus on the core conditions of empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard within the therapeutic relationship.Â
In my sessions, non-directive means that the subject of each session is entirely up to you, however, I may ask questions to help understand that subject further, and gently challenge you on things I may have noticed.
With this in mind, I am drawn to the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly the trans community, and have both lived experience, and client experience in this area. I also have experience working with the following subjects (not limited to): Anxiety, depression, burnout, neurodivergence, chronic illness, family issues, work-related stress, HIV/AIDS, kink-aware, low self-esteem, non-monogamy, sex issues, sexual abuse, bereavement.
