I have more than 30 years experience as a counsellor and more than 10 of these working primarily with couples as an Emotionally Focused Therapist (an approach developed by Sue Johnson).
Partners come to therapy for a variety of reasons, for example: discontent with how they have drifted apart, to work on healing after an affair or other boundary transgression, differences in how they express their LGBTQ+ identities and the tensions this creates, exploring consensual nonmonogamy, coping with illness, loving each other and knowing their relationship could be better.
I work primarily with couples who are LGBTQ+ and take into account the past and current experience of being LGBTQ+ and its impact on them and their relationships. The degree I do this will depend on what clients want and how central, or not, this is to their issues.
