Sara Smith
About the Therapist
I am a cis female but consider myself to be an LGBTQ+ ally. Over the last ten years I have supported a close family member in their transition with all the practical and emotional support that this requires. I have also been closely involved with Mermaids and worked for a while as one of their helpline operators. In addition to this, I have worked as a school counsellor supporting many teens who were questioning their gender identity and sexual preferences. My philosophy on life is that we should all be valued for the unique humans that we are regardless of any perceived difference. If you choose to work with me, I will always strive to offer you a safe, confidential space free of judgement.
- Heterosexual
I am a registered member of the BACP: membership number - 00953404
I have a Level 4 diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a Level 5 diploma in Psychotherpeutic Counselling.

I have worked in Private Practice for the last 5 years as well as working as a school counsellor for part of that time. I am an integrative therapist meaning that I draw on a variety of theories to inform my work. The modalities I use are: person centred theory (you are the heart of the work); Transactional Analysis (analysing how we communicate with others and how this impacts on our relationships); Attachment Theory (how our early relationships, particularly with parents, impact our behaviour and responses in the here and now); CBT (challenging the way we think about things as this impacts on our feelings and behaviours).
