About the Therapist
How I Work
I work in a person-centred and relational way, which means our work together begins with understanding your experience from your perspective.
Areas I Often Work With
I frequently support individuals experiencing:
- Anxiety and overwhelming thoughts or feelings
- Neurodiversity and the experience of feeling misunderstood or unsupported, including making sense of a late in life diagnosis
- Trauma and the ongoing impact of difficult life experiences
- Depression and low mood
- Identity exploration and questions of belonging
- Chronic illness and long-term health conditions
When life feels overwhelming, we can explore small ways to ease pressure and bring a bit of relief, while also looking at the deeper meanings in your experiences — who you are, what matters to you, and how you want to live your life. I’m especially interested in the questions that often sit beneath life’s struggles: questions about identity, purpose, and finding a sense of meaning and direction that feels right for you.
I also bring mindfulness practices from my training as a meditation teacher, which can support you in noticing and understanding your thoughts, feelings, and bodily experience. Mindfulness can be particularly helpful for those struggling with anxiety.
My work is trauma-informed, recognising that difficult or overwhelming experiences can affect how we relate to ourselves, others, and the world around us. I aim to create a space where these experiences can be explored with care, helping people develop understanding, self-compassion, and a greater sense of stability.
About SJ
My perspective as a counsellor is also informed by my lived experience. I have spent over 25 years living bi-nationally, am the child of a refugee, and identify as both queer and neurodiverse. These experiences give me a deep appreciation for the complexities of identity, belonging, and navigating different cultural and social landscapes.
If you’d like to get a sense of me before booking, we can start with a free 15 minute chat. It’s relaxed, with no pressure or obligation.
I work online Monday-Friday.

Professional Experience
Alongside my private practice, I work as a counsellor with an LGBTQ+ charity, supporting individuals with trauma, anxiety, depression, identity exploration, self-harm, chronic illness, and family rejection. I have particular experience working with trans and non-binary folks, as well as people navigating complex or long-term health conditions. I am deeply passionate about offering affirmative therapy for LGBTQ+ individuals, and creating a space where everyone feels welcome, seen, and valued for who they are.
Community and Background
Before training as a counsellor, I spent over two decades working in small independent organisations, charities, and community projects. These roles were consistently centred around people, community, and creating environments where individuals felt welcomed, valued, and able to connect.
This work strengthened my belief that people thrive when they are offered acceptance, curiosity, and space to be themselves — a belief also shaped by my own experience of therapy, which I have found deeply supportive and life-changing.
I also have a background in meditation and mindfulness facilitation and occasionally bring mindfulness-based techniques into session when a client feels it may be helpful.
