About the Therapist
People describe me as calm, empathic and unjudgmental. I’m down-to-earth and welcome the many ways that people might express themselves during therapy. I’m comfortable with strong feelings and hearing and talking about things that people often find difficult. I have a playful sense of humour and enjoy celebrating successes in my work with clients.
I’m creative, resourceful and like to reflect critically on how I can improve my work. I’m committed to continuing to make my practice more accessible and inclusive.
I’m a qualified integrative counsellor. I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), abide by their ethical framework, and maintain professional indemnity insurance for my work.
I retrained as a counsellor following 15 years working in higher education.

I’m an integrative counsellor, which means I draw on a range of approaches to therapy, putting them together in a way that’s unique to each person I work with. I collaborate with clients to figure out what kind of approach works for them and what might help them through the difficulties that have brought them to counselling.
I draw on CBT and psychodynamic therapy (attachment theory) within a humanistic framework. To put this in everyday language, I think that it can be helpful to look at how our thoughts, feelings and behaviours influence each other, but that we're not isolated beings influenced only by what goes on in our heads (even if we might feel like that at times). Humans are social creatures and the relationships we find ourselves in – both with friends and loved ones, in our environment, and in society more broadly – continue to shape and impact us throughout our lives. This can happen on all kinds of levels, from how we think about and talk about ourselves, to the ways we feel able to take up space or the opportunities we feel able to pursue. Happily I believe that experiencing positive, helping relationships can often help us to change things for the better.
I work in a relational way - you get the real me, not a persona I put on for work - and I encourage clients to feel resourced by the counselling relationship if they need to. Counselling can provide a great opportunity to feel seen, heard, respected and validated.
I've worked successfully with clients in a specialist LGBTQ+ counselling service and in a trauma-informed counselling service as well as in private practice.
