Unique Conversations
About the Therapist
I am Claire Duchateau (she/her), Franco-British, and bilingual.
I have experienced personally belonging in two places at once while feeling slightly foreign in both.
I came out and found myself later in life. I know from the inside the costs of spending years living an identity that does not quite fit, and the freeing and reward when you finally build one that does.
I retrained as a counsellor, couple therapist and life coach to bring hope to others. Because that experience matters, and a therapist who has lived something is not the same as one who has only read about it.
I bring Gottman-informed couples work, transformational coaching, and a genuinely affirming space to every conversation.
Warm, gentle yet direct, research-backed, and occasionally seasoned with the dry Franco-British honesty that makes difficult conversations slightly more survivable.
A free initial call is always the starting point. Because fit matters, and you have spent long enough in spaces that were not built for you.

My training began in person-centred therapy; the relationship between us is the work, not merely the setting.
I have since added life coaching, Gottman-informed couples therapy, mindfulness, CBT, psychodynamic thinking, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. Neuroqueer and LGBTQ+ clients deserve an approach flexible enough to meet the genuine complexity of their experience.
I have worked across the charity sector, a CIC, a large health organisation, and private practice.
My approach is supportive, educational, and gently challenging, working across mind, heart, and body simultaneously, because sustainable change requires all three.
Sessions are available online across the UK, face-to-face in Wigan town centre, walk-and-talk in Wigan, and by telephone.
