Being a part of the Queer community is integral to who I am as a person and as a counsellor. I specialise in working with people who have experienced trauma and take a trauma informed approach to my practice to ensure that people are psychologically safe when undertaking therapeutic work. I have experience working with people who have experienced sexual trauma so welcome people to reach out if this is something you like to work on.

Experience and approach:

I qualified over a year ago as a Therapeutic Counsellor after 3 years training. I have been working as a volunteer at STARS Dorset for 2 years which is service for people who have experienced sexual abuse, sexual trauma, childhood sexual abuse and rape.

I work using the trauma model; working therapeutically with the trauma model involves helping you understand how past traumatic experiences impact your present emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.

The process begins by creating a safe, trusting environment where you feel supported. As a counsellor, I can help you explore and process your trauma gradually, ensuring you remain grounded and not overwhelmed. Techniques like grounding exercises, mindfulness, or exploring memories safely are often used.

The focus is on building resilience, identifying triggers, and developing healthier coping mechanisms. I can also empower you to reconnect with your sense of self and gain control over your life, fostering healing and personal growth.

In my previous working roles I also have experience of working with people who have experienced Domestic Abuse, substance misuse, suicidal thoughts and self harm, so am comfortable exploring these topics.
