About the Therapist
Finding the right therapist can be a confusing and frustrating experience and may take some time to find the right 'fit'. I suggest that you aim to meet with several therapists before you make a decision. You would make contact via email, text, WhatsApp or phone we would arrange to have a brief telephone call to discuss your needs. I can answer any questions you may have around therapy and any practicalities. Then, should you want to move forward, we will arrange a more in-depth consultation. A little about me:
Prior to training as a therapist from 2007-2011 I worked in theatre, appearing as a performer in West End musicals such as Mamma Mia, Blood Brothers, Fame and Starlight Express. Dealing with my own mental health issues from a young age I had a transformative experience working with a therapist in my twenties that inspired me to become a therapist myself.
My clinical training was at Birkbeck College, University of London where I obtained an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy alongside a secondary care mental health placement in the NHS. I am a senior accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), a full registrant of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and an accredited Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) practitioner. I undertook my DIT clinical training in conjunction with the Anna Freud Centre, as well as a training in Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) for application with those with Borderline Personality Disorder. I received a training in supervision in 2016 with the British Psychotherapy Foundation (BPF). More recently, I completed a training at the Institute of Group Analysis (IGA) graduating in 2018 with a Diploma in Group Work Practice as an Associate member of the IGA. In the last couple of years I trained as a meditation practitioner in both Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) at the Oxford Mindfulness Centre and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), with Mindfulness UK.
I adhere to the code of ethics as set out by the BACP. https://www.bacp.co.uk/media/3103/bacp-ethical-framework-for-the-counselling-professions-2018.pdfÂ
My first role was as a psychodynamic psychotherapist for the West End Community Mental Health Team, working long term with complex patients in secondary care. I worked as a student counsellor at both London Metropolitan University and University College London in individual and group work. I spent several years in NHS Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services as a Dynamic Interpersonal Therapist for South West London and St Georges' Mental Health Trust, the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and Compass Wellbeing CIC, an NHS-Funded social enterprise offering mental health services to the population of Tower Hamlets, where I ran therapy groups alongside individual sessions. In 2017 I took a research position at Birkbeck College, University of London as a Widening Participation Student Counsellor where I ran a project researching the barriers to counselling faced by men, refugees and care leavers. In 2018 I returned to the NHS to take up a secondary care post, this time in East London NHS Foundation Trust, working as a group and individual psychotherapist in the borough of Newham.
I have maintained a private practice since 2013 and began a doctorate at Metanoia Institute / Middlesex University in 2020, looking into the impact of minority stress.

Approach Therapy can be as short as 4 sessions, where the focus might be on a specific, acute issue or as long as several years, with the aim for a more fundamental change in personality and emotional development. It usually becomes clear, once we begin, what might work best for you - I usually suggest 4 sessions in the first instance.
Therapists come from many different theoretical schools, which can be quite confusing when you are just looking for someone to talk to. Is is worth looking up 'therapy approaches' online to see which speaks to you. My core training was psychodynamic, which provides a foundation to my way of working, but I would now consider myself an integrative therapist, drawing on a variety of therapeutic approaches, depending on your needs, such as Existential Therapy and , Attachment Theory, Group Analysis and Jungian Analysis.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy helps to understand and resolve problems by increasing awareness of your inner world (unconscious) and its influence over your relationships both past and present, aiming to reducing symptoms and alleviating distress. CBT is a practical therapy based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a vicious cycle. Existential therapy places emphasis on the human condition as a whole and uses a positive approach that applauds human capacities and aspirations while simultaneously acknowledging human limitations. The basic tenets of person-centred therapy are the autonomy of the client and their capacity to self-heal and develop when the therapist provides a psychological environment based on specified conditions. I draw on attachment theory that describes four attachment styles: Secure, Anxious/preoccupied, Dismissive/avoidant, and Fearful-avoidant. This can be very useful lens through which to work on issues of intimacy, sex, commitment and conflict. My group trainings also place importance on the family, cultural, social and political world in which we live and how we make sense of that as individuals. My experience of Jungian psychology also emphasises the shadowy yet creative part of ourselves and the lifelong process of individuation, that it, coming to an understanding of the self through an assimilation of the conscious and unconscious aspects of ourselves.
My view is that therapy can help most people - from work stress, anxiety, depression or relationship issues, those with diagnosed mental health conditions, to those who might be experiencing a loss of meaning in their lives or who are seeking a greater sense of fulfilment.
Research points to the relationship between the client and therapist being the main vehicle for change in a successful therapy. I can offer a safe, collaborative and confidential space, free from judgement but challenging where necessary, to help you to get where you need to be

My fee is £90 per session for those with full time jobs earning above £30,000. I charge for consultation sessions but I can offer a brief free phone call if that feel helpful in the first instance. I have a limited availability of lower fee spaces  for students and the unemployed/low waged at £60 per session. I also take most of the main health insurers.
