Wilder Gutterson
About the Therapist
I believe that everyone longs to feel validated and accepted. This can be especially difficult for queer and LGBT people, even in a relatively accepting society, like Britain
Sharing our innermost thoughts may feel unnerving, overwhelming, and sometimes even shameful. Â I strongly believe that exploring our private worlds with a trusted counsellor, at the right pace, can repair complex problems and resolve long-standing issues.
Some enter counselling to come out - to themselves as well as to family and friends. I see gay couples who want the comfort of knowing their experience is understood firsthand. Others need to work through a bereavement, or face issues of low self-esteem, anxiety, or depression. Maybe old coping strategies no longer soothe and comfort, and you need to forge new pathways and imbed more helpful solutions.
I am trained in both Psychodynamic and Systemic counselling. I also use Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and Internal Family Systems. I am also a qualified MBT (Mentalization Based Therapy) therapist - the work is short-term, and solution-focused (10 sessions). Especially appropriate for high-conflict couples.
In plain English, I bring a lifetime of experience to the counselling room and adapt my approach to suit the needs of each individual case. You will find me warm and compassionate, and ready to offer my reflections as well.

In order to move forward we will explore your current world and discover how your past may be influencing your present.
My approach is both compassionate and direct. I do not take sides or make decisions for clients. I will help you find insights so you can work things through for yourself, and I intervene when necessary.
Primarily we will engage in ‘talk therapy’. You might also draw, write, or work though a past experience.
In the first session I'll learn more about you and what you want to achieve, and you can experience how we work together as well.
