Mel Perks
About the Therapist
My name is Mel Perks (They/She). I am a nonbinary queer psychoanalytic psychotherapist based in Cornwall.Â
I love surfing of all kinds and am a proud founding member of the Queer Surf Club. I am very passionate about exploring the ways in which we as individuals connect, affect, and are affected by nature.
My experience in psychoanalysis has been concentrated on viewing theory through a queer and feminist lens with an active commitment to the decolonisation of ideas produced within the field. I am ever learning about how and in what way we can use contemporary writings in psychoanalysis to open up conversations between ourselves and what is possible when we have such a space to roam around in. I am interested in the everyday experiences of people and how we end up in the binds that we do, what keeps us where we are, where possible, what moves us from these spaces and where it isn’t possible, how we carve out a space to live within it. These interests combined affect the kind of conversation and therefore therapeutic space that I offer people.
I am not only offer talking sessions but also walking whilst talking sessions and I am also trained in an Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR) approach.
