About the Therapist
As a lesbian woman, and psychologist, I am open about my queer identity and active in the promotion of inclusivity and positive health and well-being for LGBTQIA+ people. This includes sharing information and chellenging misconceptions in everyday conversations, as well as conducting social justice research projects, and much in-between. I actively work at being queer affirmative, anti-racist, and holding a balance of knowledge and awareness with curiosity and humility in my relationships with others. I hold myself accountable for my actions and beliefs, recognising that self-awareness, reflection and continual learning are ongoing processes I need to be engaged in.

Counselling psychology is an applied psychology that embraces diversity and plurality - ‘one size’ of therapy does not fit all! Based on Humanistic and social justice values, empathic understanding of an individual or group’s unique experience of themselves and the world is central to what we do.
I have extensive training and experience in several kinds of talking therapy, which means we have different options to choose from in deciding what will be most helpful to you. We will decide how frequently to meet, and therapy can be short, medium or long term. As well as your preference for a particular therapy, we can also explore what the research (evidence base) suggests is effective for the issues you wish to address, how structured you want therapy to be, and what goals or directions you want to pursue. As a psychologist, I will work with you to carry out an assessment of your concerns, and together we will develop a psychological understanding of this (called a formulation) which will guide our therapy plan. We can add to and/or review this at any time, and we would always talk about ending and work towards this at your pace.
The psychological therapies I offer include the following specific approaches or an individualised combination of more than one:
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
Dialectical behaviour therapy (CBT-informed DBT which includes skills training, individual therapy, telephone coaching)
Mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT)
Person centred therapy (PCT)
Queer affirmative therapy
Schema Therapy (ST)
I attend regular supervision and I am engaged in various kinds of professional development activities and scholarship to support the quality and effectiveness of my practice.
